Love Fire
I know you feel things aren’t right;
That darkness follows the light…
That day is followed by night
And that true love is out of sight.
But if you’ll agree with me on this;
That I fell in love with you long before our kiss.
That our souls somehow found their counterparts
In the depths of our minds and our hearts.
Then it’s also true that day follows night;
That something feeling wrong can also be right…
That after the darkness comes the brightest light,
And that I can’t get you out of my sight.
Because I see a forever with you;
One I can’t explain but always knew
That somehow here you’d be waiting
While in agony I’d be commiserating…
Wondering why God hadn’t sent you here sooner;
Certainly before I became a boomer.
But the Universe’s magic is clear…
Since it brought you and me here.
So I ask you to let down your guard of fear
And simply let me near.
Just tell me how you need to be loved;
Cared for, kissed and hugged.
And I promise I’ll do my best…
Destiny will take care of the rest.
All I ask in return
Is to let your love fire burn.

There’s a gentleness in this that’s really striking. The rhythm, the imagery, the honesty — You wrote this with both courage and restraint, and it shows.
Like this ; just a thought…what about deleting ‘their’ From the first line and both ‘ours’ from the second ?
That our souls somehow found their counterparts
In the depths of our minds and our hearts.
